Whether the area is used daily for parking, occasionally, or mainly by foot affects which surfaces are suitable and how they should be constructed.
Ground conditions
Existing soil, drainage and levels affect the sub-base needed for any surface, and can rule some options in or out.
Drainage
Some surfaces, like resin-bound systems and chip and stone, can be built permeable; others, like concrete, tarmac and porcelain, need to be laid to falls towards a drainage point.
Appearance
